Criteria

AREAS OF COMPETITION

Each contestant will run on a platform of community service.  The contestants will be selected from all 55 member states of the African Union between the ages of 18-28 on the day of crowning.

1-Opening Dance (not judged)
This segment will be a choreographed group dance with all delegates.

2- National costume: intro of contestants 20%
30 seconds:
this will be an outfit representing the contestant’s country traditions or a national costume with country flag colors in it. This segment will be judged on creativity, presentation on stage and this segment is also where the contestant has the opportunity to introduce herself (name, age, what Country you are representing, school and major. You also have exactly 20 seconds to briefly talk about your platform. Total 30 seconds

3-Evening wear: 10%
Miss African Union Pageant titleholder must carry themselves with dignity, grace, poise and elegance. Judges will not be evaluating the cost or designer label of the gown, but rather how well it reflects African cultural theme, as well as delegate’s on-stage presentation. The Evening Wear must be floor length.

4-Sport wear: 10%
Miss African Union Pageant titleholder must be physically fit, with good muscle tone and body proportion. Delegates have to provide competition sports attire, this is not a swim suit attire.

5-Fashion wear: Personal style 10%
Miss African Union Pageant titleholder must be able to express their own personal sense of style.  Fashion can be anything the delegate feels represents traditional or modern African cultural themes, styles, and customs.   Judges will be looking for spirit, energy and the delegate’s own personal sense of style. 6-African Haute couture evening wear (cut to top 10) 20%:
This segment is high fashion evening wear using African prints combined with high end designs. Miss African Union Pageant titleholder must be able to express their own personal sense of style. African fashion can be anything the delegate feels represents a currently popular or stylish ensemble. Judges will be looking for spirit, energy and the delegate’s own personal sense of style. Haute Couture. This segment will lead to the selection of the top 10 contestants who will be invited back on stage in this same gown to present their full platform in 2mn each. The top 5 will be selected after the platform presentation

7-Top 5: Q&A ( Top 5 only): All delegates will be giving 10 questions on December 5th at the hotel so you gave two days to study the questions because your top 5 questions will come from it. All delegates must study these questions since we don’t know who will make top 5.

Miss African Union Pageant titleholder must be articulate with excellent social and conversational skills. Titleholder must be able to express herself clearly, diplomatically, and must project a pleasant personality, and approachable at all times.
Interviews will be conducted “round robin style”. Delegate will introduce herself and be field questions posed by each individual judge. The interview focuses primarily on delegates’ personal information, culture but may include opinion questions that require general knowledge of Africa’s history, social and current events. Delegates should wear a cocktail /suit for the interview competition and African Union Diaspora Official Pageant Banner.
